who we are

Make money, have fun, do good

We deliver a 10-day, 20-workshop business building course.
It’s free to attend. We provide tools, knowledge and confidence to help people who want to start their own business get it going. It’s also a brilliant refresher opportunity for business owners ready to consider how they might adjust and continue to thrive. Our programme is immersive, interactive, and gets results.

What kind of stuff do you teach?
Our topics include:

● How to start a business with NO money
● How to feel more confident to get going
● The dark art of sales and marketing
● How to make a website for free
● Frog-eating: how to get things done
● The legal stuff – compliance

Who teaches it? How many people?
Our experienced facilitators - all small business owners themselves - deliver the course with enthusiasm and fun. Local guest speakers contribute and we typically see 30-50 attendees.

What happens to graduates?
Our 1400 course graduates can access continuing support through our weekly webinars, local ambassadors and follow-up workshops. We also have tools and processes available to help graduates accelerate their business needs - not to mention an active alumni network. Some also meet requirements for our intensive business development programme funded through MSD. The evidence about the long-term impact of the course is revealed through longitudinal economic and social data about graduates - talk to us to find out more.

Who benefits?
Graduates create or develop a business they are passionate about and have fun bringing it to life. For many, this is life-changing. They meet others on the same journey.

Communities are positively impacted by small businesses through involvement and support, job creation, increased innovation and competition, and growth in local products and services.
Funders are able to directly engage with the programme and participants and provide an opportunity to drive growth, collaboration and development in their region.
The Rebel Business Schooll was brought to Aotearoa by Tony Henderson-Newport in 2017. The programme fills a niche in the start-up business ecosystem supporting those with a business idea to activate and accelerate their business idea and to do that for FREE. The Rebel Business School was founded in the UK in 2012 by Alan Donegan and Simon Paine.  After several large coffees, they both realised that in order to find, inspire and help people start businesses (especially those people who've got it tough) you need to take a completely different approach.

How are we different from traditional business support?

  • Writing a business plan is NOT always the best way to start a business.
  • We believe you don’t need capital and investors to start a successful business.
  • We excite and inspire people to want to start a business.
  • We deliver the latest online business models where people can make money from home.
  • Fun and Passion are at the core of everything we do.
  • We compliment traditional business support by getting people started and feeding into their mentoring and support schemes.
  • We build the businesses with people in the workshops so they believe they can do it.
  • We create a community that support each other long after we leave.

How it works

Meeting
Pre-project - we meet key partners and members of the community to create a Rebel Business School course that will involve and develop people in a way that will best serve the local community.

Promote
In the marketing phase we work to tell as many people as we can about the Rebel Business School. Our job is to find those people that are contemplating starting a business but don't know where to start, or may have already started but need a little more direction.

Coach
We 'Pop-up' for a fixed period of time in a space identified by the community. Our job is to give individual-centered high quality support. We run workshops, facilitate peer learning, and coach and mentor people who are serious about making their own money.

Support
We make a record of our interactions so people can access them after the project has ended. We empower communities to continue the support after the project has ended.

Customers have to know you, like you,
and trust you. If not, game over."
- Simon Paine
